光之荼靡
#1
To Love (將愛)
Music: Faye Wong Lyrics: Faye Wong
曲/詞:王菲 編:張亞東
*Windy, fiery, vehemently, our love resembles a battle
We have shed no blood, yet already we have sacrificed
Concealed a dying heartbeat, buried a life of glory
Vultures over a desolate field, spinning in search of remains
Pixies in the night skies, watching the spirits' shadows
A sudden ringing, spearing through a dead silence
To hail this honor, or to tease this sanctity*
#Let love proceed till the end, selflessness is cruelty reincarnated
Let love proceed till the end, gore lies not in right or wrong#
Repeat *# #
Let love proceed till the end, gentleness remains, lonesomeness perpetuates
Empty City (空城)
Music: Chen Hsiao Chuan Lyrics: Kwan
曲:陳曉娟 詞:Kwan 編:林海
*Living within the same orb, having learned to plant love with one's eyes
Love is a piece of mirror: Whoever lives on the other end, I shall seek you
Faced an opponent, mastered a counterstrike, using the strength of a drop of my tears*
Whomever invented drawers, locking hearts up to be cherished
Thinking love as a staircase, following its way, I only picked up glass slippers
Complicated patterns, its only byproduct being misery
^I don't want an empty city of love, please grant me your innocence
I don't want a love palm, making unnecessary sacrifices for it
I don't want an empty city of love, erasing the company of shooting stars
At the degree of aging parameters, only reading your face^
Repeat *^^^
At the degree of aging parameters, only reading your face
Living within the same orb, having learned to plant love with one's eyes
Whomever invented drawers, locking hearts up to be cherished
Love is piece of mirror: Whoever lives on the other end, I shall seek you
Faced an opponent
Leave Nothing (不留)
Music: Faye Wong Lyrics: Faye Wong
曲/詞:王菲 編:張亞東
*Giving you my essence, him my days
Giving you my smiles, him my mercy
Giving you my thoughts, him my time
Giving you my tears, (him my obligations)*
Giving you the photos, him the calendar
Giving you the colors, him the landscapes
Giving you the distance, him the speechlessness
^Giving you the fireworks, him the celebration
Giving you the movie ticket, him the seat
Giving you the candlelight, him the dinner
Requesting the song for you, handing him the microphone^
You the sounds, him the images
Giving you the plot, him the ending
Giving you glass slippers, him the clock striking twelve
#Giving you my heart, him my body
Rather be leaving nothing, no longer holding any worries
If I still may have sorrow, let the wind blow it asunder
If I still may have happiness#
Repeat *^#
If I still may have sorrow, let the wind blow it asunder
If I still may have happiness, maybe
Beautiful Mistake (美錯)
Music: Guo Zi Lyrics: Lin Xi
曲:郭子 詞:林夕 編:孟軍
Originally planned to swear by the ocean with him,
Yet mistakenly arrived to a swimming pool
Eyes filled with the ocean-blue beauty,
That is where you and I began,
The blue ripples laid forth a path of memories
You gave me a meteoroid rarely descending from above,
I continued to mistake it for a perfect diamond,
Never once seeing its defect,
Mounting it onto my ring,
I did not even realize,
What was there I had lost
*Allow me to have sensibility get the better of me,
Leaving sense to no avail,
At least then I would have had a moment of happiness
Who cares if you are real or fake, or whoever is my destination,
The ability of self-righteousness is nevertheless a blessing
It always happens either too early, or too late
A beautiful mistake often comes so close to the truth
Although sometimes I wake up from dreams, and sometimes I don't hold out
The greatest happiness in life is nothing more than this
The so-called dream life
Means precisely this
Repeat *
The so-called fate means this
Passenger (乘客)
Music: Sophie Zelmani, Lars Halapi Lyrics: Lin Xi
曲:Sophie Zelmani, Lars Halapi 詞:林夕 編:郭亮
The highway bridge had passed
There are many more blocks to go
This was a smooth road
We arrived in no time
Sitting in the car you drive
Listening to the songs you listen to
We are happy indeed
The first streetlight has lit
What are you thinking?
The tune is happy indeed
That singer has married
Sitting in the car you drive
Listening to the songs you listen to
I am not unhappy
The white clouds of a pale white
The blue sky of a grayish blue
My home is almost there
I am this car's
First passenger
I am not unhappy
The sky of a blood red
The stars of a grayish silver
Where is your lover?
Yes I'm going home
I must hurry home
Where your life goes on
So I'm going home
Going home alone
And your life goes on
Precious Sunshine (陽寶)
Music: Faye Wong Lyrics: Faye Wong
曲/詞:王菲 編:張亞東
*Sunshine dearest
My sunflower
Only blossoming under the sunshine
Carrying elegance amidst passion
I said the sunshine would go away
You said there would be no regrets
The sunshine disappeared as usual
You withered just like how I had imagined
I was wrong
Wishing you comfort from the moon
You said you
Wanted not this kind of splendor*
Repeat *
#I was wrong
Wishing you comfort from the moon
You said you
Wanted not this kind of splendor#
Oh sunshine dearest
Be not upset at my not understanding
Protest not to me
Despite how I wish I were the sun
I am but another sunflower
Repeat #
Dearest under the sunshine
Exceptionally radiant
Its smile under the sunshine
Slightly fatigued
Carousel (旋木)
Music: Yuan Wei Ren Lyrics: Yang Ming Xue
曲:袁惟仁 詞:楊明學 編:黃中岳
Possessing a magnificent appearance and luminous lighting
I am a carousel being here in this heaven
Only to satisfy children's dreams
Climbing onto my back so that I may take you gliding
*I forgot the sorrow in which I can only gallop on the spot
Too forgot that I am forever in chains
No matter how long I would be able to stay with you
At least I can let you imagine gliding with me
#The galloping wooden horse
Allowing you to forget your sorrow
In this heaven that provides laughter
Seeing their
Eyes filled with amazement
There is no need to think about me
The spinning wooden horse
Having no wings
Yet capable of taking you gliding everywhere
As the music stops you will be leaving
This is all I can do *#
Repeat *#
April Snow (四月雪)
Music: Faye Wong Lyrics: Lin Xi
?王菲 詞:林夕 編:張亞東
When snow falls suddenly from an April sky
One will think of religious faith
When one's personal past has suddenly lost importance*
One will possess great fortitude
Putting facial expressions aside
Will actually expand one's inner heart**
The mortal world begins to look bleak
Only then does God begin to sing
Ah... what right do we have to speak of misery?
Ah... for whom do we fear?
For whom do we toil?
Because the entire world has been sullied
One can find the most beautiful wish
Because daybreak remains unseen for the moment
One can see one's most earnest dreams
Desire has become absurd
Value seems preposterous
The mortal world begins to go mad
There will finally be a day
When we return to the playground
There will finally be a day
When we see sunlight again
What right do we have to speak of misery?
Ah... for whom do we fear?
For whom do we toil?
*"Has suddenly lost weight" (weight as in importance) is closer to the exact wording in
the original lyrics, but obviously the word "weight" has other connotations that might
make this line sound a bit ridiculous.
**"...expand one's inner heart" - in Chinese, this could be taken to mean "to expand one's
capacity for forbearance or compassion".
Concealed Night (夜妝)
Music: Zhang Ya Dong Lyrics: Kwan
曲/編:張亞東 詞:Kwan
The wind has blown the moonlight aquiver
[I] put on heavy makeup in the early evening
[And] paint my lips bright red
Without regard to when my hair will turn to frost
I am crazy in my own way
Ruins have become [my] heaven
I've been to and fro several times
I don't care if it's miles away*
Who will contemplate past events?
Smiling while tears stream down
In the blink of an eye
Two hearts are at separate ends of the universe
I'll hold vigil by the window
You made a mistake
I fell in love
All these flights of fancy
Ooh...
Desire
It's hard to fend off one instance of wounded love
Ooh... I want to do as I wish
Then I'll be all right
I have a thorough understanding
[And] place little importance on trepidations of the mortal world
Ooh...
*The idiomatic expression used in this line is literally translated "mountain far water long"
(shan1 yuan3 shui3 chang2). I've actually never heard of this expression before (perhaps it's
more commonly used in Mandarin? I'm an ignorant Cantonese-speaker you see). I only know of a
similar expression that's literally translated "mountain high water long" (shan1 gao1 shui3 chang2).
The latter expression is used to describe a person of honour and integrity (mountain high = person's
honour stands far above the crowd; water long = person's honour will be remembered for a long time).
This meaning doesn't match the rest of the lyrics, so I assume Kwan meant something different. I'm
guessing that "mountain far water long" is similar to expressions such as "corner of the sea, edge
of the sky", that mean "very far away".
Smoke (煙)
Music: Zhang Ya Dong Lyrics: Lin Xi
?編:張亞東 詞:林夕
There's a kind of tantalising smell
I can't help but light you up
It sends nearby people running
It's not good for me
I know, I know
I can't kick the habit
Can't kick the habit
Flowery sentiments
I can't escape the addiction
Can't kick the habit
Foggy contours
My dreams have been turned upside down
[I] can smell it in my dreams
[I] can still see its shadows
[You] satisfy the momentary idleness between my fingers
[You've] become the support on which my beating pulse relies
When I kiss you I forget my worries
You've become my worry
I never thought, never thought
[That] I'd be unable to kick the habit
Can't kick the habit
[I] don't need to kiss you
Yet what could be more important?
Can't kick the habit
[I] was so proud of myself
[Now] I'm irritable when I'm not holding you
Can't kick the habit
If only my sense of taste could be extinguished
Yet I cannot bear to do this
[I could] put you down
And pretend to smile while picking a flower
The problem lies in
How to calm my heartbeat, calm my heartbeat
How to calm my heartbeat, calm my heartbeat
be natural / be baleno
